Learn to fish near Montreal
Guided introduction from $125 CAD / person
Want to start fishing, but not sure where to begin? No need to buy $500 of gear before you know if you even like it. Over a full guided day on the water in the Laurentians or Lanaudière, about 1 h 30 from Montreal, you learn to cast, pick a lure, read a river, unhook and handle a fish — and you leave knowing where to look for trout and other salmonids.

That's exactly the problem beginners face: too many rods, hooks and lures to choose from, intimidating regulations, and nobody to show them where to look. In a single day, you leave with a simple method you can reuse on your own.
- Casting: the right motion with an ultralight spinning rod, without a bird's nest every five minutes.
- Picking a lure: spinner, soft plastic or natural bait depending on the water and season.
- Reading a river: where trout hide — pools, current seams, undercut banks and shade.
- Unhooking and handling a fish: landing it, unhooking it and releasing it properly.
- Regulations made simple: licence, sizes and limits, so you fish legally.
No gear to buy
Gear can be provided on request: rod, reel and lures. You don't even need waders — water shoes are enough in several sectors. Show up with outdoor clothing, your fishing licence and your lunch; we take care of the rest.
It's the cheapest, fastest way to find out whether fishing is for you, before spending a cent on your own gear.
How the day unfolds
- We pick an accessible sector based on the day's conditions — river, creek or lake.
- First casts with the guide: we fix your motion right away, at your pace.
- We fish while moving: every pool is a lesson in reading the water.
- Shore lunch break on the bank (bring your lunch).
- At the end of the day, we recap: what to redo on your own, where to go, and what gear to buy first if you want to keep going.
Who it's for
Solo, couples, families or friends — trips are private or in small groups, and everyone fishes. It's also a great way to introduce a kid or teen to fishing, with a pace that suits them.
No experience needed, no judgment: most of our beginner guests had never held a rod before their first trip.

Frequently asked questions

- Yes, it's exactly for you. Many of our guests had never fished before their first outing. Everything is taught on site, at your pace: casting, reading the water, fighting and handling a fish.
- Do I need to buy gear before the trip?
- No. Rod, reel and lures can be provided on request. You don't need waders either: water shoes are enough in several sectors. It's the ideal way to try fishing before investing.
- Do I need a fishing licence?
- Yes. A valid Quebec sport fishing licence is required from age 18. You can buy one online in a few minutes, and it's your responsibility to have it before the trip.
