Where the water gets deep
Lake trout (touladi) fishing on deep lakes
Lake trout — touladi — live in the deep, cold lakes of the Laurentians and Lanaudière. In spring and fall they rise close to the surface and become very accessible; in summer you have to go down and find the cold layer.
Reading a lake trout lake
We look for breaklines, shallow humps next to deep water, and schools of baitfish. Water temperature dictates everything: lake trout follow the cold, oxygenated layer through the season.
Techniques
- Controlled trolling at a precise depth.
- Vertical jigging over structure.
- Lures that imitate smelt and whitefish.
- Sonar reading explained as we fish.

Frequently asked questions
- Is a boat included?
- The all-inclusive boat package includes the boat, the electronics and the guide. The standard boat trip runs from your own boat, and we plan the launch and the sector together.
- When is the best time for lake trout?
- Right after ice-out in spring, and again in fall when the water cools and the fish come shallow — those are the most accessible windows.
