FAQ — guided trout and salmon fishing near Montreal
Licences, beginners, gear, success rate: clear answers before your trip.
- What equipment should I bring for Ontario salmon fishing?
- Waders and wading boots are required. Bring your rod, reel, lures or flies: fishing gear is not provided. Bring your own camping equipment for multi-day packages.
- Is transport from Montreal included?
- Round-trip transport from Montreal available: +$100 per person, subject to availability. This extra is not included in the package price or booking estimate. Request it in your message; the guide confirms availability before any commitment.
- Can I choose fly fishing or spinning?
- Yes. Ontario salmon trips are walk-and-wade outings with fly fishing or spinning gear. Select your preference in the request; the sector and technique depend on the river, season and applicable regulations.
- Which fishing licence do I need, and is it included?
- The licence is not included. You need a valid licence for the province where you fish: Quebec for Quebec trips, Ontario for Ontario trips. Buying online is very easy: allow about 5 minutes, sometimes less if your account is already ready. For Quebec and other Canadian residents outside Ontario, a one-day sport fishing licence costs $15.21 + tax (2026 fee). An Outdoors Card is not required with this one-day licence. For other licences that require it, the card costs $8.57 + tax, approximately $9 before tax, if you do not already have a valid card. Fees and exemptions vary by residency, age and circumstances; check the official portal before buying. Buy online: https://www.huntandfishontario.com/
- Can I bring my child or join as a beginner?
- Beginners are welcome. Include children’s ages and your experience in the request so the guide can confirm a suitable sector, access and required equipment. Wade fishing depends on river conditions.
- What happens in dangerous weather or if I cancel?
- Trips are rescheduled during thunderstorms or unsafe conditions. If you need to cancel, contact Frédéric: cancellation terms must be confirmed personally before finalizing your booking.
- Do I pay when I send a booking request?
- No. There is no online payment or commitment when you submit the form. Frédéric personally confirms the details and availability before the trip becomes official.

- I don't own a rod or waders.
- For Quebec trout trips, some equipment may be available on request and some sectors can be fished in water shoes; confirm with the guide. Ontario salmon: bring your own gear, waders and wading boots; equipment is not provided.
