Wary and powerful
Brown trout fishing in rivers
Brown trout live in several Laurentian and Lanaudière rivers, often in the same water as brook trout but behaving completely differently: warier, more territorial, and capable of reaching a surprising size for such small water.
Why brown trout are a real challenge
An adult brown holds under cover, rarely shows itself, and refuses a sloppy presentation. Look for undercut banks, fallen trees and the shade of a big boulder. They feed hardest at first light, at dusk, and when the water is slightly stained after rain.
What we work on together
- A silent approach and a precise casting angle.
- A presentation that reaches the fish before you do.
- Bigger lures than brook trout when we are hunting one good fish.
- Reading feeding windows based on light and flow.

Frequently asked questions
- Can we target brown trout only?
- We can prioritise brown trout water, but these rivers are mixed — catching brook trout the same day is common.
- What gear do I need for brown trout?
- A light 6 to 7 foot rod, 6 to 8 lb line and a few well-chosen lures are enough. Gear can be provided.
