Fishing guide near Montreal

Frédéric Mayeu is a trout and salmon fishing guide. Guided trips can depart from Montreal or meet in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, about a 90-minute drive away — close enough for a day trip and far enough to reach wild water. Every outing is planned around the weather, water level and recent results.

Trout fishing in the Laurentians and Lanaudière

Brook trout in forest streams, brown trout in rivers, lake trout in deep lakes and landlocked salmon in rivers: the Laurentians and Lanaudière offer all four within two hours of Montreal. If you are wondering where to fish for trout near Montreal, the guide's job is to find the water that best fits the conditions on your day.

A trip for beginners and experienced anglers

Never held a fishing rod? Many trips are with first-time trout anglers. Water reading, casting, presentation and fighting fish are taught on the spot without judgement. Experienced anglers spend the day exploring areas and techniques they can use again on their own.

How does a guided fishing trip work?

  1. 1Send your request with your package, date and number of anglers.
  2. 2I confirm by email with the meeting point and what to bring.
  3. 3On the day, the area is selected around water level, temperature and weather.
  4. 4We fish, adjust techniques and leave you with practical knowledge — without ever guaranteeing a catch.

FAQ

Guided fishing trip questions

What equipment should I bring for Ontario salmon fishing?
Waders and wading boots are required. Bring your rod, reel, lures or flies: fishing gear is not provided. Bring your own camping equipment for multi-day packages.
Is transport from Montreal included?
Round-trip transport from Montreal available: +$100 per person, subject to availability. This extra is not included in the package price or booking estimate. Request it in your message; the guide confirms availability before any commitment.
Can I choose fly fishing or spinning?
Yes. Ontario salmon trips are walk-and-wade outings with fly fishing or spinning gear. Select your preference in the request; the sector and technique depend on the river, season and applicable regulations.
Which fishing licence do I need, and is it included?
The licence is not included. You need a valid licence for the province where you fish: Quebec for Quebec trips, Ontario for Ontario trips. Buying online is very easy: allow about 5 minutes, sometimes less if your account is already ready. For Quebec and other Canadian residents outside Ontario, a one-day sport fishing licence costs $15.21 + tax (2026 fee). An Outdoors Card is not required with this one-day licence. For other licences that require it, the card costs $8.57 + tax, approximately $9 before tax, if you do not already have a valid card. Fees and exemptions vary by residency, age and circumstances; check the official portal before buying. Buy online: https://www.huntandfishontario.com/
Can I bring my child or join as a beginner?
Beginners are welcome. Include children’s ages and your experience in the request so the guide can confirm a suitable sector, access and required equipment. Wade fishing depends on river conditions.
What happens in dangerous weather or if I cancel?
Trips are rescheduled during thunderstorms or unsafe conditions. If you need to cancel, contact Frédéric: cancellation terms must be confirmed personally before finalizing your booking.
Do I pay when I send a booking request?
No. There is no online payment or commitment when you submit the form. Frédéric personally confirms the details and availability before the trip becomes official.
How much is Ontario salmon fishing and how long is the trip?
$250 per person for 1 day, $600 for 2 days / 1 night and $900 for 3 days / 2 nights of camping. Each day includes 6 hours of fishing. No catch is guaranteed.
How does the booking calendar work?
The calendar shows live availability: seats left per day, open-group days and blocked dates. You pick a free date, then send your request.
When can I book a Quebec trout trip?
The 2027 Quebec trout season opens May 5. Booking requests are open now for the Laurentians and Lanaudière.
Are Ontario salmon trips available now?
Yes. Ontario salmon trips are currently available, with one-, two- and three-day packages starting at $250 per person.
Do I have to pay online to book?

Can I join an existing group?
